The Digest - Week 8 II 2025
A very staccato wrap-up of last week!
WROTE two articles - I enjoyed writing a lot! The first one was dedicated to “butter yellow”, my favourite yellow out there and probably the colour of spring 2025 when it comes to accessories and clothes. The other newsletter I sent out was about steel interior objects and furniture, as I’ve been coming across stainless steel kitchens, kitchen tools, tables, and chairs a lot lately. I also curated my favourite pieces. Find the article here.
WORE a lot of coats, lots of layers, and things I don’t want to wear anymore. I probably should listen to my own advice and upgrade my winter wardrobe with these simple tricks, but I’m honestly over it. I. Want. Spring. And that’s why I already tested the set by Sézane (I’m wearing it in the picture above) and I absolutely adore: double denim in indigo blue! Click for jacket and trousers!
PREPARING for a work trip to Copenhagen that will start tomorrow. I don’t have that much time on my hands, but hopefully, I’ll have a couple of hours to stroll through this beautiful city. I’ve been to Copenhagen only once but fell in love with the city. If you have some must-dos, send them my way or simply write them in the comments.
ENJOYED watching this reel about the end of micro trends by Eugene Healey (he also writes a Substack called “Considered Chaos”. I could barely keep up with all the trends that were going on in 2024 - and yes, I got myself a barn jacket, and yes, I was tempted many, many times to buy something I saw on Instagram, but I got the feeling that everything started looking the same. I’m a big fan of a capsule wardrobe that can be mixed and matched without looking outdated after three months and investing in pieces that might be a bit more pricey but higher in quality and wearable for years to come.
DREAMING of dusting out my winter wardrobe (bye bye coats, scarves and hats - see you next winter!). It’s time for some lighter colours, jackets that are not black, long, and covering the rest of the outfit. The Rohe jacket is so beautiful and would be the perfect start to the spring season.
FOLLOWED Alla, a paper art creator, whose work is so stunning and dreamy, I got stuck on her account for a long time. I promise, it’s a treat - follow her here!
SANG ALONG to the music of The Libertines a lot. I stumbled upon Pete Doherty’s Instagram account recently and discovered not only that they released new music last year, but also that they’re going on tour this spring. Somehow it’s 2002 all over again, the sobered up version.
Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!
Lots of love,
Franzi

STYLE LESSONS: DIANA VREELAND
Let’s talk about Diana Vreeland! The New York Times famously called her the “Empress of Fantasy.” This legendary fashion editor and creative visionary might not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of minimalism. Known for her bold statements, dramatic accessories, and signature love of red, she seemed to embody everything that minimalism avoids.
WINTER WARDROBE UPGRADE
How is the new year treating you so far? I’ve just returned to Berlin after a two-week break in the Bavarian countryside filled with lots of eating, drinking wine, and not moving much. It almost feels like my brain capacity has shrunk to a minimum, and I’m far from being a motivated, improved 2025 version of myself - with a list of resolutions, gym gear all packed, and thriving. Quite the opposite, in fact, let’s call it temporary hibernation mode with to-dos piling up.
THIS WAS 2024
It’s been…a year. As we draw to a close, I find myself reflecting on this journey we’ve been on together. This year, I published 53 newsletters (can you believe it?) and watched this (not so) little project of mine grow by 100% to 4,000 subscribers. Each of you has been a part of that growth, and I can’t thank you enough for reading, sharing, and supporting my work. Your engagement, kind words, and thoughtful feedback meant a lot.
MINIMALISTIC & FESTIVE LOOKS
Minimalistic black and white looks are the epitome of timeless elegance, perfect for the festive season. These monochromatic outfits embody sophistication and versatility: From Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s iconic white shirt and black skirt ensemble to structured blazers and tailored suits that redefine classic eveningwear - simplicity as the ultimate statement. I curated my favourite looks, present and from the past and recreated them for you!
ICONIC: THE 90s LOOKS
The resurrection of ’90s fashion makes me feel a certain way. Back then, I was manoeuvring my way through puberty, enthusiastically plucking my eyebrows, trying baby blue eyeshadow, and having my first encounters with fashion. At the same time, memorable looks were being created by movie stars and models — some brilliant, some so bad I never want to revisit them. Today, I want to focus on the good that the ’90s brought us (and less on the bad and ugly) and have handpicked 10 legendary looks from equally legendary women, recreating them for a touch of that timeless charm in 2024. Here’s to feeling a bit like Cindy, Gwyneth, Carolyn, Chloë, Kate, Linda, or Diana. Let’s dive in, ladies!
